Guitar Showcase

Memorial Day Weekend

The Annual Guitar Showcase is held in May  and features up to a dozen of some of the best guitar players,  by invitation only,  in South Florida in the blues.    At this event you get a great 5-hour show backed by one of the many talented bands in our area.  For the venue selection, we prefer to use a member club that also provides sound, great service , good food choices and serves liquor, wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages.

SFBS Member Appreciation Show

Once a year, we sponsor a special show featuring an out-of-town artists/band for the enjoyment of our members.  It’s our way of saying thanks for supporting your blues society!  Without our members, there is no blues society!  We appreciate your support so you get in FREE with your current membership card.   If you are not a member, you should be and you can join at the door with the admittance fee of $20 for a single membership or $30 for a household.

Harp Blowoff "A Roomful of Wind"

Labor Day Weekend

Every Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, we feature up to a dozen of our local harmonica players, by invitation only, in our “roomful of wind” backed by a blues band that could be local or from outside the area with their own harmonica player in the band.   In the past, we have featured special out-of-town guests such as Pat Ramsey, Jason Ricci, Gary Primich,  Mark Hummel, T C Carr, Billy Gibson, and many Others

Local IBC Challenge "The Road To Memphis"

Competitions are held once a year in the summer/fall for a chance to represent South Florida at the Internatiional Blues Challenge in January/February of the following year in Memphis TN.    A band and/or solo/duo act is selected by a panel of judges as they compete in a similar fashion as the competition.  An entry fee is required to compete.  The winning band gets $1,000 to help get on the road for the competition, and single duos usually get $500.  Once you win the local competition, every local show after that is an opportunity to raise more funds for the trip!   We also sponsor a “second” show for fundraising purposes in January.

South Florida Blues Society Annual Picnic and Blues Cruise Raffle

Every October, we have a free picnic open to the public that is another blues jam!  Musicians are welcomed to bring their instrument along with their friends and family to enjoy a relaxing day at the park starting at noon.  Cost is the price of admission to the park.   We provide the chicken, burgers and hot dogs (donations welcomed) and you bring along a side dish to share, your beverage of choice and chairs.   We also have the raffle drawing for the winner of the ticket for two people to go on the Legendar y Rhythem and Blues Cruise (LRBC).

From April to October, you can buy a raffle ticket for a chance to  win a cabin for 2 (valued at $5000) aboard the Legendary Rhythm Blues Cruise ship for a 7-day cruise (chartered from Holland America) .  The sailing date is in January or February of the following year . South Florida Blues Society Holiday Party

On The Road With The Blues Society

Over the years, we have sponsored other successful shows including the Blues Divas show and other fundraising jams for American Red Cross for hurricane victims, Hurricane Matthew musician victims,  etc.  We have a booth annually at the Riverwalk Blues Festival, the Crawdebaughery Festival, and at the first Daytona Beach Blues Festival.  We’ve also had a booth at the Tampa Bay Blues Festival.
Your Donations at work!
With funds contributed by our members we supported the Blues in the Schools Program until they dissolved, we contributed for many years to Music for Minors, an educational music program.  On a weekly basis, we were co-sponsors for 1 hour of blues on WKPX for Dar’s Sunday Morning Blues show.
